There may also be other resources available in the links on the right of this screen. I believe Sam Learning now has an Applied ICT section, but I haven't seen what's there.

You will need a username and password (as given out in school and a letter sent home) to access the Telford resources.

Year 11 - Key Piece of Work (KPOW)

Year 11 Key Piece of Work: Due 16/3/06

Think of at least six questions to ‘ask’ this database – these will be answered by creating queries which will search the database. Your questions must be realistic, the typical kinds of questions that the Arena staff would want answer to. You should also state a reason for needing to do this search. E.g.

* Search for a person’s contact telephone by surname or membership number
* Search for all the classes taken by a particular instructor
* Search for all the members of a particular class
* Search for all the classes on a particular day
* etc, etc

To be able to search and find the answers in the database, the relevant data must be stored there in the first place. Your KPOW should be written in Word and will consist of text for the questions and reasons, and tables for the query designs (as shown in class).

Recent GCSE ICT Homeworks - Mr. Jones

Here's a reminder about the last three GCSE Applied ICT Homeworks that have been set:

Homework: Due 28/2/06

Create a screen input form for each of your three tables. You may draw this neatly by hand and stick it into your documentation, or use a drawing program to do it. Either way, three designs must appear in your design section.

Homework: Due 7/3/06

To produce your Test Data for the ICT Systems Project. Your test data should include normal, extreme and erroneous data to fully test how the database system handles each type. You should have:

* 20 Records for members with all their details
* 10 Classes with details e.g. Step Aerobics, Monday, 5pm, Studio 1, Mr. Smith etc

Each member needs to be enrolled in at least one class (some will have more) so there will be at least 20 enrolments.

Examples of what these forms should look like have been shown in lessons.

Homework: Due 9/3/06

Create a data capture form for the Bolton Arena database. This is the form that new members will complete with their details when they join the Arena. It should have all the same fields in it as the members’ table, because this will be used to enter each new members’ details into the database.

Year 11 Revision Sessions 13th-15th December

We will be running after school revision / workshop sessions on Tuesday 13th to Thursday 15th December 2005. If you have any problems with any of your ICT practical work there will be teachers available in E Block to help on these nights.

Don't forget your real ICT pratical exam is the first week back after Christmas, on the same day as your mock exam was in November. Check the lists on the top floor of E Block before you leave for Christmas, and take all your practical work home with you.

Year 11 GCSE Applied ICT Work

All Year 11 pupils studying the GCSE Applied ICT course should be working on their practical skills for exam in January 2006.

The exams run from Tuesday January 10th to Thursday January 12th 2006. In the event of anyone being ill it may be possible to hold an extra session on Friday 13th January, but nobody wants to do that do they!?!

The exams will run exactly as the mock exams did in November, with pupils sitting in the sessions published on the wall outside the ICT Rooms in E-block. Morning break, lesson 3 and Lunchtime have changed just for the day of your exam, exactly as in the mocks. The practical exam lasts for 2 and half hours.

Over the Christmas Vacation you will need to revise from the following things, and therefore you need to take them home at the end of this term.
  • Candidate Kit Booklet
  • Pre-release Material Booklet
  • Your printouts answering the tasks
  • Your Mock Exam paper (marked with corrections)
  • May 2005 past paper and printouts

We come back to school on January 9th 2006, and this is quite late compared to some schools. There is plenty of time for you to revise and practise your ICT skills after the Christmas and New Year celebrations have finished on January 2nd. The first examination session is on Tuesday 10th January at 9am. Check the lists upstairs in E Block before you leave at the end of term, to remind yourself of your exam date and time.

Don't forget that help is available online using the Thomas Telford Resources here and DiDA Delivered here, but you may need to remind yourself about the username and passwords to logon to the Telford materials.

You may leave any questions you may have for your ICT teacher at the bottom of this message, but they will not appear on the blog until we have seen them.
